Temporary Quantity Restriction on Ordering Vital Record Certificates

Temporary Quantity Restriction on Ordering Vital Record Certificates

The Department of Health has placed a restriction on the number of certified death certificates that can be ordered from Vital Records due to shortage in the supply of the security paper that they are printed on.  The notice informs us of a restriction that will be in place today and will continue until September 1, 2025 unless the supplier of the security paper can fulfill the order in a more timely fashion. The highlights of this notice are as follows.  Death certificate orders that are processed by Vital Records will be restricted in quantity to 5 copies per decedent for both funeral home orders processed by a public office and Veterans fee waived requests.  If a family desires more than 5 copies of the certified death certificate of a decedent, local registrars are still able to process orders without any quantity restrictions.  It will also be important to inform the families of Veterans that only 5 fee waived copies can be obtained at this time, and the remaining 5 copies can be applied for once the restriction is lifted.  It may be wise to compile a list of the deceased Veterans you have served during the time the restriction has been in place so the additional requests can be submitted once it has been lifted.  The full State Registrars Notice is linked below.
