Registration closing for Assembly on May 17! Register now!

The 2019 Southern Ohio Synod Assembly takes place on June 7-8 at the HPER Center, 250 Bill Edwards Drive, Wittenberg University, in Springfield, Ohio.

Our theme for assembly is Stronger and Better Together: On the way. Our focus scripture is Luke 24:13-24. We are delighted to welcome our ELCA representative, The Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, Presiding Bishop.

In June, we will follow the Holy Spirit's leading as we decide who will be our Bishop for the next six years, as well as who will fill the position of Secretary and a few other positions on the Synod Council for the next 4 years. Because the Bishop Call Process is the only election in our synod that begins with an ecclesiastical ballot, the Bishop's Call Process Task Force has created a process focused on the Spirit and discernment for our synod and potential nominees to walk through over the coming months in preparation for the first ballot a.k.a the ecclesiastical ballot. Please read The Rev. Craig Richter's (Chair of the Bishop's Call Process Task Force) letter, which outlines the process and what to expect over the coming months.

Part of that process begins on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 with Ash Wednesday. The Task Force has developed a series of devotions. The devotions are meant to be used in a variety of settings - personal devotions, Bible studies, adult forums, prayer groups, devotions before meetings, and so on. The questions provided are starters for conversation; please follow where the Spirit guides! We hope you will find them helpful and centering during this time of discernment and preparation.

Other business during the assembly is the approval of our 2020-2021 Mission and Ministry Plan, 2020 Compensation Guidelines, and any resolutions submitted by the March 15, 2019 deadline. We will also learn more about the Thrive! Campaign and hear from the Pastoral Advisory Cabinet regarding the exciting opportunities that await our synod during and after the campaign.

Registrants are invited to participate in a variety of mission-centered workshops. Pre-registration is not necessary. You’ll be provided with a list of workshop options in your Pre-Assembly Packet of materials. Just plan to attend the workshop you’re interested in, but have a back up in case the room fills up!

Prior to our inspiring synod-wide worship service, we will be hosting a fellowship dinner in the HPER Center. The dinner is included in the assembly registration fee. We do ask that you let us know on the registration form if you plan to attend so we can prepare accordingly. We do hope you will join us for both dinner and worship!
