The 2012 NJ Special Olympic Summer Games will be held the weekend of June (June 8-10) at the College of New Jersey in Mercer County (CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS TO TCNJ). New Jersey is proud to have one of the largest Wellness Parks in the world at its’ Games with numerous disciplines represented including Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, and Optometry.

Special Olympics Volunteers

Once again, as part of Special Olympics Lion’s Clubs International Opening Eyes, member Optometrists from the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians will provide vision screenings, examinations, and protective eye wear to Special Olympic athletes, many of whom don’t receive adequate care. Those Optometrists and optometry students who have joined us in prior years will tell you that working together for such an important cause with special athletes is an unforgettable experience. If you haven’t participated in the past, why not come out this year? We promise a weekend you will never forget!

Special Olympics 2011

We will be screening athletes on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon (6/9), and Sunday morning (6/10). The Opening Ceremony, which will include the parade of athletes, and music, will be held on Friday evening (6/8).

All volunteers who must travel one hour or more in each direction, will be put up in a local hotel. Please keep in mind you will be sharing a room with up to 4 people. Breakfast and lunches will be provided and arrangements are being made for a special Saturday evening dinner.
