Financial Aid

The Ohio Osteopathic Association and its affiliate organizations have established numerous scholarship and loan programs to assist Ohio osteopathic students.

Ohio Osteopathic Foundation Scholarships

Three OOF (3) scholarships are available for students attending the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM).  Students should contact the OU-COM Office of Student Affairs for more information. Learn more about OOF student support.

Ohio Osteopathic Foundation Student Tuition Loan Program

Students who are residents of Ohio and attending any osteopathic college may apply for OOF Student Tuition Loans. Learn more.

Ohio ACOFP Family Medicine Fellowship 

The Ohio ACOFP and Katherine A. Clark, DO, have endowed the Ohio ACOFP/Katherine H. Clark Fellowship to support OU-HCOM Family Medicine Fellows, also known as primary care fellows, who choose to pursue an osteopathic residency within the Ohio University Centers of Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) in Ohio. The endowment periodically funds a $1,000 grant to to be used at the discretion of the recipient to support a primary care residency program. Students should contact the Office of Student Affairs for more information.

Ohio ACOFP Family Medicine Department Awards

The Ohio State Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians sponsors an award each spring in the family practice category. Recipients are selected by the OU-HCOM Family Practice Department and receive a family practice textbook, plaque and $75.

Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP)

This loan forgiveness program is available to third year osteopathic students who are enrolled at OU-HCOM or LECOM, and are residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties in Ohio, as well as Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania.  Applicants must agree to join the staff of one of the HMHP hospitals for at least five years after graduation from a residency program.  Applicants must also be graduates of high schools located in the above Ohio and Pennsylvania Counties.  The amount of the loan is $50,000 a year for two years, with 20 percent forgiveness per year.  Payback with interest is required if terms of the loan are not upheld.  For more information, contact:  David Gemmel, PhD, Sr. Director of Medical Education and Research at

American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians

The ACOFP Scholarship & Student Loan Committee and the Auxiliary of the ACOFP have announced the availability of 2012 scholarships applications. Four $2,500 and 20 $1,000 scholarships will be award. Applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited osteopathic medical school – OMS II, OMSIII or OMS IV. They must also intend to enter an AOA-approved family medicine residency program. The deadline for submitting applications is February 15, 2012; The scholarships will be distributed in May 2012.  Download the criteria and application.

American Osteopathic Foundation

The AOF offers a variety of grant, scholarship, and award opportunities to osteopathic medical students, residents, physicians, researchers, and osteopathic centers/programs.  Through these opportunities, the AOF is able to recognize some of the exceptional individuals within the osteopathic profession who are making a difference.  For more information click here.

National Health Service Corp Scholarship

The NHSC awards scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in primary care. The scholarship includes:

  • Payment for tuition, required fees, and other reasonable educational costs
  • Monthly support stipend (taxable)
  • Assistance in finding a practice site

In return, students commit to serve in the Corps for two to four years in an underserved community located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) upon their graduation and licensure.  For more information click here.
