Harvey Richman

Harvey Richman, O.D., has been named president of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians for 2009.

Dr. Richman has been active in organized optometry prior to graduating from New England College of Optometry in 1991. He was the class vice president and the student liaison to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

Today, he is honored to serve in the capacity of adjunct faculty for the New England College of Optometry, SUNY College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, University of Houston College of Optometry, Inter-American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry and UC Berkeley College of Optometry. Dr. Richman has also offered a variety of courses for occupational therapists, school nurses, teachers and learning consultants.

An active member of NJSOP for 17 years, Dr. Richman has been a longtime member of the Board of Directors. In 1996 he founded the society's Low Vision Committee and serves on the organization's Clinical Care Center.

Dr. Richman is a member of several other prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Optometry, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the Optometric Extension Program and the American Optometric Association, in which he has served on the Low Vision Rehabilitation Section, Eye Care Benefits Center and Coding Subcommittee.

A recipient of several prestigious awards, Dr. Richman has been acknowledged through NJSOP's Young O.D. of the Year Award, Chairperson of the Year award, Distinguished Service award and two Special Recognition Awards. In 2007 he was named New Jersey's Optometrist of the Year.

Dr. Richman practices in Manasquan and Lakewood, NJ with his wife Dr. Maria Richman. They reside in Sea Girt with their two children.
