Objectives:
Insulin Pen Administration:
CMA Insulin Pen Education and Competency: This is intended to educate and provide competency for CMA’s regarding new regulations allowing the administration of insulin pens to residents.
- Differentiating between different insulin types and orders they may encounter
- Understand common errors that may happen with insulin administration.
- Identify the three levels of hypoglycemia
- Identify hypoglycemia symptoms
- Learn how to prepare and administer insulin injections via an insulin pen
Controlled Substance Medication Administration:
- Understand opioids as a high-risk medication
- Risk for errors
- How to properly apply and remove transdermal patches
- Understand the importance of Narcan (Naloxone)
- Reporting theft/loss/discrepancies
- Controlled substance documentation
