The U.S. General Services Administration has published updated Lodging and Meal & Incidental Per Diem Rates for Fiscal Year 2027. The rates take effect on October 1, 2026.
The result for FY27 includes an increase to the standard "CONUS" per diem rate, and increases for all of Ohio's six additional "primary destinations."
This will mean all lodging areas in Ohio will see per diem increases for FY27.
Ohio has only 6 primary destination regions with designated per diem rates. The Standard CONUS Rate applies in all other counties.
Destinations not listed separately from the CONUS rate all fall under that standard rate. This includes Canton and Mentor, which were moved under the standard rate in FY 2025. It also includes areas such as Akron, Wooster, Toledo, etc. which all fall under the standard CONUS rate.

Per diem rates are calculated from the Average Daily Rate (ADR) of qualified hotels for the previous fiscal year. For FY27, the federal government recognized a lag in per diem rates compared to market rates, especially after rates were frozen for FY26 from previous annual levels.
Federal per diem rates impact not only federal government travel, but also other jurisdictions and organizations which may use the federal rates as a guideline. This is important for hotels that rely on per diem revenue, but also for the government and other travelers who rely on a fair and accurate per diem to access suitable accommodations while traveling for work.

Because of the economic impacts felt by hotels during the continuing recovery post-pandemic, and changing market forces impacting rates, industry groups like the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association (OHLA) and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) have consistently urged the GSA and Congress to provide protections and ensure that per diem rates reflect current market conditions.
