OSCA Meets with Department of Medicaid to Discuss Expanded Reimbursement

(COLUMBUS, OH) – Today, the Ohio State Chiropractic Association met with the Ohio Department of Medicaid, the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the Ohio State Chiropractic Board, and other providers on the topic of increased scope of reimbursement for chiropractic services. Today’s meeting included addressing concerns shared by the department and reiterated chiropractic’s effectiveness, improved patient outcomes, cost savings, and potential to reduce opioid use, addiction and overdoses. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Department representatives agreed to take the information back for further review and to continue working with stakeholders.

Throughout the last year, the OSCA has been working with in-house counsel and our lobbying team to advocate for additional reimbursement for services performed for Medicaid patients. During hearing testimony given to ODM in November, the OSCA stated “It is the position of the OSCA that the Ohio Department of Medicaid would see lower costs and better outcomes related to spinal pain complaints if full and unrestricted access to chiropractic care is available to Ohio Medicaid recipients.” The OSCA remains committed to working the Ohio Department of Medicaid in making incremental policy changes that would increase access to chiropractic services and ensure the best interests of Medicaid patients.
