Aetna Responds to OSCA Letter, Offers Apology

OSCA’s Executive Director, Nicholas Strata, accepted an offer to speak with Aetna’s Executive Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Harold Paz, this morning to discuss the misinformation the company’s CEO gave while conducting an interview with Yahoo Finance. Mr. Strata was joined on the call by Dr. Brandy Spaulding, the OSCA’s Director of Chiropractic Services. In addressing the August 9th letter directly, Dr. Paz apologized for the inaccurate statement.

In moving on from discussing the letter Dr. Paz did state “chiropractors play an important role” in combating the opioid drug epidemic and agreed Ohio has been the hardest hit state in the country. Asking what can the OSCA do to help, he stated “educate.” Responding to that answer, Mr. Strata asked if Aetna would be open to discussing new policy proposals; specifically what the OSCA has been working on with state government agencies. Dr. Paz said he would “be delighted” to look at our ideas and ensure the proposals get to the appropriate personnel in Ohio.

Mr. Strata and Dr. Spaulding wrapped up the call with thanking Dr. Paz for the call and the apology.
