Statement Nicholas Strate on Governor's New Opioid Prescribing Guidelines

Governor Kasich’s new prescribing guideline for opioids is a necessary step towards Ohio recovering from this epidemic. As Governor Kasich has stated multiple times, it will take a full collaboration of individuals and groups to cut down on usage, and we were happy to be part of the conversation along with representatives from the OSMA, OPA, OOA and all of the regulatory boards.

At the press conference, a guest speaker included a woman who was a recovering addict. Her addiction was the result of a workplace injury that was unsuccessfully treated with surgery and opioids. After the recent announcement from BWC regarding their new rule on conservative care before surgery and the new guidelines released today by the governor’s administration, the emphasis on conservative care continues to be strong. As the awareness of the dangers of opioid usage increases, chiropractic will continue to be a healthy alternative to the traditional pain management model.

The OSCA looks forward to continuing to be part of the ongoing conversation, as we were today, regarding conservative alternatives for pain management.
