MSS Advocacy Grand Rounds - AI in Prior Authorization

Since January 2026, CMS’s Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) pilot model has integrated AI and machine learning vendors to screen prior authorization and prepayment reviews for select service categories in Ohio’s traditional Medicare program. While designed to curb low-value care, the deployment of automated screening has introduced procedural bottlenecks, contributing to treatment delays and canceled surgeries. Aaron will evaluate the need to establish standardized AI safeguards, enforce clinical peer review, and expand transparency around WISeR determination outcomes!
