OSMA Joins Effort to Support Physician-Owned Hospitals (POHs)

Last week, OSMA joined other state and national medical societies in sending a letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives voicing support for H.R. 4002, the “Patient Access to High Quality Care Act of 2025.”

This bipartisan bill would repeal statutory restrictions on the whole-hospital exception to the Stark physician self-referral law—removing barriers that currently prevent the formation or expansion of physician-owned hospitals (POHs).

OSMA policy supports legislation that eliminates these restrictions and increases flexibility for establishing and expanding POHs. OSMA will continue to advocate for these efforts at both the state and federal levels.
