Report on Physician Employment Trends and Practice Acquisitions (2018-2026)

A new report from the Physicians Advocacy Institute confirms what many physicians are already experiencing. 82% of U.S. physicians are now employed by hospitals or corporate entities, a trend that has grown steadily over the past decade.

When hospitals and insurance companies set the terms of how medicine is practiced, physicians have less say in the decisions that matter most. Treatment decisions that once belonged to the doctor and the patient are increasingly being shaped by corporate priorities and insurance requirements.

Patients feel it, too. Instead of focusing on care, physicians are competing to hit metrics set by a hospital or corporate employer. That pressure has real consequences for the patient experience.

This is why OSMA exists. Regardless of where a physician practices, every doctor deserves the ability to put their patient first. Physician advocacy is patient advocacy.
