Southern Ohio Synod e-bulletin for Rostered Ministers for the Week of March 27, 2019

Stronger and better together:
Joining Jesus in the restoration of the world!

Synod News

Reminder! All are encouraged to read and share the Bishop's Call Process Devotions for individuals and congregations in preparation for assembly

We will be spending the next few months in a synod-wide devotional practice to help us prepare for the 2019 Synod Assembly to be held at Wittenberg University on June 7-8, 2019. At this Synod Assembly, we will be electing a bishop for the Southern Ohio Synod. Our voting members, our congregation members, our nominees have the important task of discerning how God is calling us to be stronger and better together. The devotions are meant to be used in a variety of settings - personal devotions, Bible studies, adult forums, prayer groups, devotions before meetings, and so on. The questions provided are starters for conversation; please follow where the Spirit guides! Click HERE to read and download the devotions. It's not too late to start the devotions!

Clergy housing allowance ruled 'constitutional' by federal appeals court

The Freedom From Religion Foundation argued successfully in a Wisconsin district court that the long-standing exemption for religious housing in the IRS tax code violated the First Amendment’s establishment clause. But a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the lower court decision on Friday (March 15).

ELCA presiding bishop pastoral message on Christchurch mosque shootings

Hate-filled violence knows no bounds – whether a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, a Christian church in Charleston, a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh – and now these mosques in New Zealand. Together with our ecumenical and inter-religious partners, we stand shoulder to shoulder in condemning hatred, bigotry, racism and violence whenever and wherever it occurs.
