Your YBAA Board of Directors and Executive Committee have been VERY BUSY! As a volunteer board sometimes change is slow and sometimes the industry shouts WE NEED CHANGE NOW! YBAA does a great job of listening to its members and makes real efforts to provide meaningful benefits and productive industry interaction. This fall we heard loud and clear from our membership that an industry change was needed and that a CHOICE was needed with regard to the MLS systems that yacht brokers utilize on a daily basis. Fast forward a few months and YBAA is pleased to announce the arrival of the YBAA MLS.

Did you know that every state has a Boating Law Administrator, or BLA, that is responsible for helping to develop and shape public policy for recreational boating safety in that state? Collectively, these BLA’s form the National Association of Boating Law Administrators, or NASBLA which you may have heard of. The US Coast Guard is also an integral part of NASBLA and works with the BLA’s to ensure their state’s are following policies and guidelines, using boating grant money appropriately, and know and implement the latest boating safety regulations. NASBLA collectively gets together twice per year.

To put it simply, these are advertisement gimmicks to help persuade a prospective buyer to purchase the boat you are selling rather than those of the competitors. We see these all the time, on tv, on the radio, internet and flyers at any boat show. Everyday we are bombarded by such advertisements that most people are immune to their effects. However, these inducements do carry legal ramifications.
