Salary: $36.71 minimum per hour

Position Description: Provides support services and practices medicine under the supervision of the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Attending Surgeons and Pediatric Cardiologists as directed by the appropriate state laws. Works in conjunction with the Surgery Attendings, Cardiologists and Heart Center Physician Assistants to perform the duties required for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of the pediatric and adult congenital patients. This includes, but is not limited to, medical work-ups of inpatients and outpatients, assisting in surgical procedures, participating in provision of preoperative workup, postoperative care and follow-up, and performing other medical and surgical activities as requested. Performs a variety of duties in the evaluation, treatment planning, and management of patients within the hospital and clinic setting. Assesses patient status and identifies each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs. Uses equipment necessary to perform tests. Participates as a team member within the Heart Center and across the hospital departments.

Qualifications Required:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Current State License. Current National Commission on the Certification of the Physician Assistant Certification. ACLS, BLS and PALS required. Minimum two (2) years experience strongly preferred. Masters Degree and Certificate to Prescribe preferred. Meets hospital credentialing requirements. Maintains Continuing Medical Education credits per the national certification requirement of 100 credits every 2 years (with an additional 12 hours every 2 years for maintenance of CTP). Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to function as an integral part of the team. Teamwork and flexibility are absolutely necessary to meet the needs of the Heart Center patients and team members.

This position includes both inpatient and clinic responsibilites. Inpatient responsibilities include consults, triage, phone assessments, order placement, education of medical students/residents/staff, discharge planning/coordination of care and patient / family education. Will be seeing both pediatric and adult patients.
