PA - Lung Disease - Hospital Care Specialist

The Respiratory Institute has an exciting opportunity on our Advanced Lung Disease Service for a Physician Assistant to join a team of professionals that manage complex patients on this high-acuity inpatient service. In this hospitalist role, you will work in collaboration with-/under the supervision of the pulmonary staff physicians. This opportunity affords practicing as a team member as well as with autonomy for independent rounding, examination, results interpretation, decision-making and treatment implementation. Your weekly work schedule will be designed as four 10-hr shifts to coordinate with our present providers, to allow flexibility and promote continuity of care over seven days.

As a practitioner, you will engage with the staff and fellow physicians to evaluate and manage complex and critically ill patients to include pre-/post-/re-admitted Lung Transplantation; post-thoracic surgery following Lung Volume Reduction; and pre-/post Interventional Airway for palliative stenting. As a member of this talented multidisciplinary team, you will utilize your experience and skill set to regularly collaborate with physicians from Thoracic Surgery and Infectious Disease, in addition to, the lung transplant coordinators, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, occupational and physical therapists, social workers and case managers.

You will have the unique opportunity to participate in specialized patient care which includes adjusting complicated medication regimens for the transplant population, ordering consultations and providing emergency care when needed. Your role in admission and discharge planning will be instrumental in expediting coordination of care, assisting patients and family members with education and concerns, as well as completing discharge summaries.

Education plays a vital role in the Respiratory Institute with multiple activities that include acquisition and sharing of knowledge on teaching rounds, lectures, conferences and symposiums. We advocate your participation in the teaching and training of students, colleagues, nursing staff, residents and fellows.
