Physician Assistant

Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center


The Physician Assistant will assist with the diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative health care services, as delegated by a physician in the medical and surgical care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Participates in rounding with Physician

Provides routine medical management of inpatient care including ordering of diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications (within the scope of the PA license) and nutrition

Conducts minor procedures (under the direct supervision of Attending Physician) including suturing, splinting and casting,

Initiates the appropriate emergency care until the arrival of supervising physician

Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning, skin preparation and administration of local anesthetic

Functions as first or second assistant in the operation room including surgical exposure, suturing and closure

Obtains medical history and physical examination

Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care and services rendered in the medical record

Performs pre- and post- operative patient education to patients and their families

Responds to telephone inquiries on discharged patients and provides appropriate medical care or counseling

Communicates with referring or primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment

Provides follow-up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the Attending Physician
