License and CTP Renewal Information

License Renewals - Important Notice from the Medical Board

Applications for the renewal of your license and certificate to prescribe will be mailed to your address of record within the next month.

Failure to renew your license will result in the automatic suspension of your certificate to prescribe. This will also inactivate any and all supervision agreements.

Please make every effort to ensure that we have your correct mailing address and to renew your certificate to practice (license) and your certificate to prescribe as quickly as possible.

Please note that you cannot renew your certificate to prescribe unless and until you first renew your certificate to practice.

If your supervision agreements are inactive due to non-renewal of your certificate to practice, your supervising physician will have to reapply for the reactivation of the supervision agreement AFTER you have renewed your certificate to practice.

Renewing Your Certificate to Prescribe

As you know, you are now required to have 12 pharmacology specific CME hours over and above the required 100 CME hours in order to renew your Certificate to Prescribe.

During your first renewal cycle after receiving your Certificate to Prescribe you may only need a prorated amount of pharmacology CME.

CTP received between February 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009 you need 6 CME hours.
CTP received between February 1, 2009 and July 31, 2009 you need 3 CME hours.
CTP received between August 1, 2009 and January 31, 2010 you need 0 CME hours.

You will receive a renewal application for your Certificate to Prescribe and you will not need to submit verification of the pharmacology CME but verification should be retained in case you get audited.

Applying for your Permanent Certificate to Prescribe

Please note that there could be a window of time when you cannot apply for your permanent CTP until you have renewed your license. This shouldn't cause too much concern because you can still prescribe under your provisional CTP until your license is renewed and permanent application can be made.
