Support PA Education: Protect Federal Student Loan Access
OAPA is pleased to share this message from our colleagues at the PA Education Association. Please contact PAEA directly with any questions about this advocacy initiative.
As a component of upcoming budget reconciliation legislation, the United States Congress has been considering reforms to federal higher education policy with the potential to significantly limit access to federal student aid.
On April 28, the House Education and Workforce Committee unveiled a proposal to eliminate the Grad PLUS loan program and impose new, restrictive borrowing caps on federal Stafford loans for graduate borrowers, including PA students.
If enacted, this proposal would severely limit access to affordable financing for PA and other graduate students — threatening the future health workforce at a time of growing provider shortages, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
We urge you to contact your representatives today via PAEA’s Grassroots Action Network campaign and tell them to oppose any efforts to eliminate Grad PLUS loans or impose new federal borrowing caps that would hinder access to graduate education.
