Granger Township
Due to an upcoming retirement, Granger Township, located in northeastern Medina County, is accepting applications for the position of part-time Fire Chief. The Granger Township Fire Department is a part-time combination department that provides a full array of fire suppression, emergency medical response and fire prevention services to the community of approximately 4,800 in 25 square miles. The department has an authorized strength of 35 paid-on-call personnel. The department operates two engines, one tender, two medic units, and one grass/brush unit.
The Fire Chief reports directly to the Board of Trustees. This highly visible position requires an experienced individual who can provide enthusiastic, hands-on leadership and the ability to develop strong working relationships. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication skills and have experience in similar combination fire and/or EMS agencies. Requirements include a minimum of 10 years of experience in fire or EMS, plus documented supervisory experience, and the following State of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B (EMT-P preferred), and a valid Ohio operator’s license. Completion of Fire Officer I is required; Fire Officer II preferred. Applicants should also possess or have the ability to obtain fire instructor certification. An associate degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is preferred for this position.
The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and be able to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening. The base salary range for this position is $20,000-$24,000, with a minimum of 60 hours expected each month. In addition, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to be compensated for emergency response and/or shift work as may be needed.
