NEW! Officer Development Series!

Class 1: Informal Leadership Scheduled

Officer Development Series

The Officer Development Series seeks to equip fire professionals with the essential knowledge required to tackle the challenges of modern fire service effectively. By adopting a multidimensional approach, the series integrates academic insights with real-world experience through the expertise of OFCA member chief officers. Each four-hour class can be taken individually or as part of the series.

Current topics include:

  • Informal Leadership
  • Employee Evaluation
  • Employee Discipline
  • Budgeting for the Fire Officer

Class 1: Informal Leadership "The Bugle-less Leader" is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, from 10 AM until 3 PM and will take place at OFCA Headquarters in Worthington.

Class Description: Within the typical organizational chart, informal leaders do not have a designated position or formal title. Despite the lack of a designated position or official title, informal leaders can influence the culture of an organization in a positive manner. This class will explore the traits of an informal leader and provide the tools to guide participants on how to apply these revealed traits so informal leaders can positively influence an organization. This class will benefit personnel in volunteer, combination, or career emergency services because informal leadership can foster an organization’s culture by providing “bugle-less” leadership in a positive direction. The class is instructed by Chief Jack Rupp (retired), Plain Township Fire Department.

Class Cost: $125 for OFCA members, $175 for non-members (includes OFCA membership). Lunch is provided courtesy of class sponsor Campbell Restoration
