Pharmacist-Administered Injectables Protocols
The Pharmacist-Administered Injectables protocols package includes draft protocols for pharmacist administration of the following:
- Addiction treatment drugs administered in a long-acting or extended-release form, including medications indicated for relapse prevention;
- Antipsychotic drugs administered in a long-acting or extended-release form;
- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) treatment or prevention drugs administered in a long-acting or extended-release form;
- Hydroxyprogesterone caproate for pregnant women;
- Medroxyprogesterone acetate for non-pregnant women;
- Cobalamin, including cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, or any other FDA-approved vitamin B12 injection;
- Antibiotics;
- Denosumab or romosozumab;
- Methotrexate for non-emergent conditions; and
- Heparin, low molecular weight heparin, and factor Xa inhibitors

Pharmacist Dispensing of Naloxone
The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy has developed this Sample Naloxone Dispensing Protocol for Pharmacies. Section 4729.44 of the Ohio Revised Code and rules 4729:1-3-04 and 4729:2-3-04 of the Ohio Administrative Code authorizes a pharmacist or pharmacy intern under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to dispense naloxone without a prescription in accordance with a physician-approved protocol. Dispensing Epinephrine Autoinjectors without a Prescription
Section 4729.47 of the Ohio Revised Code authorizes a pharmacist or pharmacy intern to dispense epinephrine autoinjectors without a prescription pursuant to a physician protocol. To implement this section of law, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy has adopted the following rules:

OPA has created a protocol as a member benefit for OPA members to use in their practices. This protocol meets the board requirements for a physician-established protocol for dispensing epinephrine autoinjectors without a prescription to individuals at least 18 years of age who meet the criteria specified in Ohio Revised Code and Administrative Code.
