Join AFOS member, Dr. Sara Bustamante, as she presents a 1 hr COPE course titled "Doc, I need a waiver. Waiver considerations for common aviation vision cases.”

The course will review several common conditions that require waivers within the aviation community, parameters for waivers, and differences among the services and the FAA.

Commander Sara M. Bustamante, OD, FAAO, EMBA
Medical Service Corps, United States Navy

CDR Bustamante earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2004 and reported to Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina.  In 2007, she graduated from the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute and earned her ‘Wings of Gold’ as Aerospace Optometrist #18.  She has been stationed at multiple Navy and Marine Corps Air Stations throughout her career, working with various aviation platforms.  She has flight hours in the T-34, TH-57, T-45, MH-60, C-40, and F/A-18, to include one catapult launch and trap.  She is currently stationed in Beaufort, South Carolina, working out of the Marine Corps Air Station clinic. 

CDR Bustamante is married to Major David ‘Ron’ Bustamante, a Cyber Officer in the Virginia Army National Guard. They have four children, David, Leland, Magnolia, and Sebastian.
