We are excited to be in person this fall in San Diego, CA just prior to the American Academy of Optometry meeting.
Registration is open for the 2022 AFOS meeting October 24-25 in San Diego, CA.
We have secured a special package that allows you to register for both the AFOS meeting and the American Academy of Optometry meeting (AAO) at one bundled rate. To register go to the Academy website and choose the AFOS/AAO Bundle.
AFOS Meeting will begin the MORNING of Monday, October 24 and run through the day on Tuesday, October 25 followed by the AAO Meeting October 26-30, 2022. | |
The 2022 AFOS Meeting will be held at the Marriott Marquis & Marina on Oct 24-25. The AAO Meeting will be at the San Diego Convention Center. | |

Meeting Dress Requirements
* Air Force: Service Dress for both meetings. Civilian clothes are authorized on travel days.
- Air Force members traveling in a Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) status are not required to wear their uniform.
* Army: ASUs or AGSUs for both meetings. Civilian attire is appropriate for day of arrival and departure for Army members.
- Class A – day 1 of both meetings; presenting lectures and/or posters; formal events (i.e. receiving award(s), induction into the Academy, etc…)
- Class B – all other days of attendance except travel days and noted above
- Army members traveling in a Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) status are not required to wear their uniform.
- USPHS members traveling in a Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) status are not required to wear their uniform.

Dr. Anthony DeWilde
Anthony DeWilde, OD is a graduate of the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry. He completed the KCVAMC Optometry residency in 2008. Dr. DeWilde is an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Missouri College of Optometry. In addition to seeing patients in the general clinic, he also works with Tele-Eye Imaging Program. Dr. DeWilde is passionate about education and has taught in a variety of settings including educating residents at the VA, students at University of Missouri – St. Louis, College of Optometry, and optometrists at both state and national meetings.

A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Swartz attended Indiana University School of Optometry. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Swartz pursued a master’s degree in physiological optics. Dr. Swartz earned her Fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry and Diplomate from the American Board of Optometry, concentrating on co-management and anterior segment disease. She has authored 7 textbooks, edited a Peer-Review column for Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, and serves on the editorial board for Optometry Times and Presbyopia Physician.
Dr. Swartz is the President of the Optometric Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Surgery Society, and a member of the Alabama Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Swartz is consulting for Ace Vision Group, currently serving as Director of Clinical Research and Education. She is also busy leading the Optometric Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive events. When not doing that, she is usually spending time with family at home, writing, or crafting.

Dr. Justine L Siergey OD, FSLS specializes in hard to fit contact lens patients including irregular cornea, post-surgical and dry eye disease and refractive surgery management. She has created and managed several specialty lens clinics in both private practice optometry and group OD/MD settings. Currently, she is the Manager of Professional Affairs in Irregular Cornea for CooperVision SEC’s America’s division. She is a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society and the former fellowship chair of their international board. Dr. Siergey is originally from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and earned her Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Air Force TBI Hands-On Course on Tuesday, Oct 25th 10am-12:30pm
Join Air Force's Optometry TBI working group on Tuesday, Oct 25 from 10-12:30pm for a TBI hands-on workshop. The focus of the workshop will be on TBI eye evaluations for the primary care optometrist. Initially, basic TBI background information will be discussed, followed by the established DoD/DHA recommendations for screening/evaluating/assessing patients. Providers will be partnered during the last portion of the class and have the opportunity to run through procedures with trainers available to answer questions and provide feedback.

We will be hosting our meeting at the Marriot Marquis and Marina and have secured a government-rate room block for our attendees.
After you register for the AFOS/AAO Meeting through the AAO website, a confirmation page will pop up with links at the bottom that will allow you to make your hotel reservation under the AFOS Room Block. You should also receive an email confirmation and at the bottom of the page there will be the same links. Make sure to choose the "AFOS Housing" link.
