Dr. Rachel Luke (pic) 

"TITLE"

CPT Rachel Luke is currently the Brain Injury Vision Rehabilitation Resident at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Liberty. Her previous duty assignment was at the Home of the 1^st Cavalry Division, Fort Cavazos. Before her adventures at Fort Cavazos, she attended and graduated from Nova Southeastern College of Optometry. Her extra curriculars included sports vision evaluations and treatment for several professional sports teams across Florida. In school, she helped establish the school’s sports vision clinic for athletes in the south Florida area. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Stetson University where she earned the All-Conference Scholar Athlete award each of her four years playing NCAA Division One athletics. In her free time, she is either outside exploring or mentoring young women as an active member of The Navigators military Christian ministry. Her long-term goals include medical missions and a self-sustaining wildlife sanctuary.

Dr. Samantha Manzo

"Hyperviscosity Retinopathy in a Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma Patient"

Samantha Manzo is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry (2021) and is a captain in the U.S Army. Dr. Manzo is currently completing a residency in Primary Eye Care with emphases in Ocular Disease and Cornea and Contact Lens at Womack Army Medical Center (Fort Liberty, NC) through Northeastern State University of Oklahoma College of Optometry. Her previous assignment was in South Korea where she was served as the commander for a field unit optometry team. Her hobbies include golfing, rock climbing, and cooking.

Dr. Darian Travis

"Macular Edema: DME or Mac Tel?"

Dr. Darian Travis is the current Low Vision/Ocular Disease resident and the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. She graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with her bachelor’s degree in 2014, completed her master’s in public health from The University of Florida in 2019, and finished her Doctorate in Optometry from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2023. Dr. Travis routinely volunteers with local community centers and has participated in several Remote Area Medical optometry programs. She enjoys camping and trying new foods with her family during her downtime.

Dr. Briana Vargas

"Beyond the Ptosis: Uncovering Myasthenia Gravis"

Dr. Briana Vargas is the current ocular disease resident for the Veterans Affairs Eye Clinic at the Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System in Harlingen and McAllen, TX. She graduated from the University of Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) in 2023. During her time in optometry school, Dr. Vargas discovered a deep passion for serving her community through eye care. She was awarded Cooper Vision’s Best Practice Scholarship and the Rosenberg School of Optometry Service Award in 2023. Following residency, Dr. Vargas hopes to continue her career serving her hometown and help educate the community about the importance of eye care. During her free time, Dr. Vargas enjoys exploring new coffee shops, going to concerts, running, and spending time with family and friends, especially at the beach.  

Dr. Megan Watters

"Uncommon Ocular Trauma: Cat-Scratch Induced Bulbar Conjunctival Laceration in a Non-Compliant Patient"

CPT Megan Watters is the current two-year combined master’s in health administration (MHA)/Primary Care Optometry Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.  She graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in 2019 and her first duty station was Fort Irwin, CA. While at Fort Irwin, CA CPT Watters organized and executed COVID-19 mass testing for the National Training Center to ensure rotational units were able to continue training. Since starting her residency, she has completed a humanitarian mission in Rio Grande Valley and a military medicine humanitarian course. She is passionate about medical contact lenses and hopes to become a skilled fitter from her residency program. In her free time CPT Watters enjoys chasing after her rambunctious two-year-old, Emma, and cuddling with her baby, Titus.
