AFOS Member, Dr. Andrew Archila, will present a 1-hr COPE accredited course with collegue Dr. Hamaz Shah. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of cataract surgery co-management, focusing on clinical decision-making, diagnostics, patient counseling, and post-operative care to enhance outcomes and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Andrew Archila is the National Optometry Program Executive and Deputy Chief Consultant for Specialty Care Services in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A diplomate in Public Health and Environmental Vision through the American Academy of Optometry, he brings decades of leadership and clinical expertise to his role.
Dr. Archila completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Irvine, and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1993. He later earned an MBA from George Mason University. His clinical focus and research have centered around access to care, public health, and healthcare system design and transformation.
In addition to his service within the VA, Dr. Archila has held multiple national and local leadership positions. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has received numerous honors for his contributions to federal service optometry and veterans’ healthcare.

Dr. Hamza Shah graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry and completed a residency in ocular disease at the Center for Sight and Dry Eye Institute in Carmel, Indiana. He currently resides in Houston, Texas with his wife. Dr. Shah is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. His clinical interests include perioperative care, glaucoma, and ocular surface disease.
