AFOS Resident Grand Rounds

Dr. Camryn Burke, originally from Lebanon, Virginia, earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in May 2025. Dr. Burke is currently completing an ocular disease residency at the Fort Wayne VA Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Dr. David R. Carson began his distinguished career as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, he served as an Air Defense Control Officer, responsible for supervising the safe routing of aircraft in direct support of ground troops.
Following his service in the Marines, he earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph’s University. Dr. Carson then transitioned to the civilian sector, where he gained significant experience as an Operations Manager and Regional Sales Representative for the transportation division of a propane midstream company.
He then pursued his passion for healthcare, earning a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Carson was commissioned in the United States Air Force, serving as the Human Performance Flight Commander and a staff optometrist at McConnell Air Force Base. Currently, he is completing a specialized residency in Brain Injury Vision Rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, continuing his dedicated service to the country.
When not working with patients, David spends as much time outdoors as possible with his beautiful wife and two daughters. Trail running and shooting are his favorite downtime activities.
Dr. Alexander Chow is an Army optometrist who earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry. He is currently an ocular disease resident at the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry, and he is concurrently obtaining a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration through the Northeastern State University.
Lieutenant Julianne Hui completed her Doctorate of Optometry at University of California in 2020. Since then, she has been stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, and Everett, Washington. She is currently completing an Ocular Disease residency at VA Medical Center Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Raviv Katz is an resident optometrist who earned his Doctor of Optometry from theNew England College of Optometry. He is currently an ocular disease resident at the Manchester Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and he is concurrently obtaining a Master of Science in Visual Science through the New England College of Optometry.
Dr. Lauren Olmstead is a native of Millington, Michigan. She went to undergraduate school at Central Michigan University where she graduated in 2019 as a 2LT from the ROTC program with her bachelor’s in biomedical science. She graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN with her doctorate in 2023. As her first assignment as a Captain, she went to the 24th Medical Detachment at Ft. Bragg, NC as the executive officer (XO). CPT Olmstead did a rotation in Kosovo for the majority of 2024. She completed the remainder of her team time as the Commander of the OPTO detachment and started her residency at Womack Army Medical Center last year. She is an Ocular Disease Resident with an Emphasis in Cornea and Contact Lens.
Captain Gabrielle Posz is a native of Indiana, and she earned her Doctor of Optometry from the Indiana University School of Optometry as a recipient of the Health Professional Scholarship Program. She is currently active duty in the US Army and is completing an ocular disease residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Allison Shelton-Tahdooahnippah is the current Ocular Disease Resident at the Chinle Comprehensive Healthcare Facility IHS in Chinle, AZ. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and obtained her optometry degree at the Kentucky College of Optometry. She plans to continue working within IHS after residency.
