Seven Ohio Oncologists To Pay Nearly $2.6 Million For Importing Misbranded Drugs
The Cleveland Plain Dealer (1/30, Townsend, 966K) reports that “seven Ohio oncologists have been ordered to collectively pay nearly $2.6 million in fines and restitution for importing cancer drugs not” FDA-approved for US use. The doctors “admitted to causing the shipment of misbranded drugs,” which is “a misdemeanor violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.” Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, said in a statement that “his office is committed to making sure patients are getting medicine that has been properly inspected.”
