Senator Stabenow Goes to Bat for Michigan Veterans Accessing Chiropractic Care

On behalf of the MAC’s Veterans Task Force, MAC staff and Dr. Dan Tominello, a MAC member who practices in Royal Oak, sat down with key aides of Senator Debbie Stabenow in September to discuss the critical importance of adding chiropractors to the staff at Michigan’s Veterans Administration Medical Centers (VAMCs) throughout the state. This week the MAC received an update that Sen. Stabenow’s office conducted a call with VA headquarters and several officials from VISN 10 (containing the lower peninsula of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio) to discuss the points raised in our September meeting. Due to this call, the MAC has been informed that the Ann Arbor VAMC has written into their strategic plan that they will be hiring multiple DCs onto their staff. The VA also informed Sen. Stabenow that referrals made to chiropractors outside of the VA occur in greater frequency than in other states. Senator Stabenow’s office also informed the MAC that they stressed the critical importance of increasing chiropractic access for Veterans and the urgent need for more chiropractors on-site at VA facilities, and it was explained that Michigan’s VAMCs would be in discussion on these points.

The MAC will continue to fight for expanded coverage of non-drug, non-surgical, care available to our nation’s Veterans and is thrilled to have Sen. Stabenow behind us.
