Update on H.R. 2654, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act

Contact Your Member of Congress TODAY!

H.R. 2654, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act, continues to move its way through the national legislative process, and our grassroots push for co-sponsors for this critical bill goes on!

As of this writing, four Michigan Members of Congress have signed on as co-sponsors:

  • Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-2)
  • Congressman John Moolenaar (MI-4)
  • Congressman Andy Levin (MI-9)
  • Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-7)

Two additional members have said they would be signing on but have yet to do so. But that still leaves eight members of the Michigan delegation who need to be convinced to support the bill!

Our national efforts during late summer/early fall have been particularly significant, as in less than six months the bill has picked up almost as many co-sponsors – 90 – as we had in the entire last Congress (91). Our primary goal remains the same – getting as many co-sponsors as possible on board, focusing on:

  • Members of the House Ways and Means Committee [Michigan’s lone member on this committee is Dale Kildee (MI-5)]
  • Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee [Michigan members include Fred Upton (MI-6), Debbie Dingell (MI-12), and Congressman Walberg]
  • Co-sponsors from last session who have yet to sign on in 2021 (This includes Congressman Upton)

What’s Next?

In September, the Ways and Means Committee developed a $3.5 trillion reconciliation package that would significantly expand Medicare. Despite the aggressive efforts of ACA, ChiroCongress, state associations, and other chiropractic supporters, we were unable to have the language of H.R. 2654 included in this bill package. While this was a disappointment, it does not diminish the importance of passing the bill or mean the end of our hopes for passage this Congress. In fact, a Senate version of the bill is being readied, and once introduced we will take the fight for Medicare full inclusion to that chamber, as well.

The profession is mobilized like never before. More and more chiropractors (and their patients) are taking action. The MAC has developed the tools you need to get into the fight. Join this amazing movement today!
