Dear Colleagues:

December 31^st marks the end of my tenure as President of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors, and I could not be prouder to have led this organization through two of the most challenging years in the history of our state. This has certainly been an honor I will never forget. The chiropractic profession has faced the adversity of the past two years and has more than risen to the challenge. We have shown our patients and communities exactly what we stand for and what makes chiropractic the premier health care profession for this moment. The momentum this profession has gained since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 is unstoppable, and where we go next is of the utmost importance.

Leaving my position as President is bittersweet. While we accomplished a lot in 2022 (see the2022 MAC Annual Report for just some of the MAC’s accomplishments this year), there remains much so work left to be done. I am proud to say that I will continue working toward these goals for the profession over the next two years as a member of the Executive Committee as the MAC’s first Chairwoman of the Board.

This January begins an incredible new opportunity – working with our incoming President, Dr. Bob Markle of Bay City, and incom­ing Vice President/Director of External Affairs, Dr. Ken Murkowski, II, of Clarkston. I have served with these talented leaders for years, and I know that they will channel their expertise, experience, dedication to the profession, and love for what we do into tremendous success in the years ahead. I look forward to helping them make their vision for leading this organization a reality.

In November, seven MAC districts participated in an all-district Zoom meeting to hold their elections. District 2 held their elections the following week in person. At these meetings, mem­bers chose one of their representatives to serve on the MAC Board of Directors. Their choices represent an extraordinary group that will make up the MAC’s Board for the next two years. At our first meeting of 2023, this group will choose two of our own to round out the Executive Committee in the positions of Director of Internal Affairs and Director of Financial Af­fairs. Whoever they choose will be very capable, and I look forward to working with them.

At that Zoom meeting, elections for district leadership were also held. I want to take a minute to sincerely thank everyone who stepped up to be a leader in their local chiropractic community. These often-unsung positions represent the grassroots heart of our association and help our association thrive. They deserve our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.

Our committee chairs and members also deserve our praise and thanks. These committed members are an indispensable part of MAC leadership. This awesome group of talented doctors from across the state are dedicated to ensuring to the best of their ability that the plans outlined by the Executive Committee and the Board are carried out. If you are interested in serving on a MAC committee next year, contact Executive Director Kris Dowell at the MAC office.

Next February, we will be gathering for our biennial Strategic Planning Session. At this momentous meeting, we will chart the course for this organization for the next two years. Stay tuned for information on how you can get involved.

Finally, I want to thank you, our members. The MAC would not exist without you. Thank you for your loyalty and passion for chiropractic. Thank you for your steadfast devotion to the principles of the MAC and the profession. Thank you for putting your faith in me in November 2020 when you elected me to serve as your President. You and your patients are the reason we do what we do.
