Lansing in Motion Active Transportation Plan

City of Lansing, Toole Design, McKenna

The Lansing in Motion Plan demonstrates strong planning and innovation by combining nationally recognized best practices, including AASHTO guidance, Vision Zero principles, Complete Streets policies, and the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) framework, with a locally tailored approach that responds to Lansing’s specific needs. Residents gain safer and more reliable access to daily destinations without relying on a car, greater comfort using walking and biking facilities, and stronger connections across the city. At the community level, the Plan supports reduced congestion, improved public health outcomes, and measurable environmental benefits, including lower vehicle emissions, improved air quality, and infrastructure investments that encourage more sustainable travel choices. Jurors said, "Easy to follow and well organized. The plan does a nice job connecting active transportation with broader community goals."

Congratulations to the City of Lansing, Toole Design, and McKenna!
