Foundation Giving

When you give to the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation (OPPF), you are giving the gift of hope for research, education and enlightenment for better psychiatric care of all Ohioans.

Anyone Can Support the Foundation

In addition to OPPA members, contributions by non-member psychiatrists, corporations, philanthropists, families, grateful patients and other friends of psychiatry are welcomed and very much appreciated!

With the overarching theme of "Advancing the Understanding of Mental Illness for a Healthy Ohio," the OPPF achieves its mission through programs, awards and collaborative initiatives in three specific areas:

  1. Public Education
  2. Professional Education
  3. Research

The OPPF seeks to build philanthropic partnerships with individuals, corporations and organizations to advance its mission now and in the future. There are many ways to support the OPPF with a gift arrangement that fulfills your charitable goals.

Leave a Legacy

You can plan to advance mental health for many years into the future and establish a lasting legacy for you and your family.

Planned giving lets you find ways to make charitable gifts now, or after your lifetime, while enjoying financial benefits for you and your family and utilizing your estate assets rather than disposable income.

The most common planned gift is a bequest in your will or living trust. You may wish to include the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation for a specific amount, a percentage, or the residual after providing for your loved ones.

Other planned gifts include:

  • A charitable gift annuity;
  • A charitable remainder trust;
  • A charitable lead trust;
  • An endowment fund;
  • Retirement plan assets;
  • Life insurance policies.

You may wish to consult your legal or financial advisor to make such a contribution. To learn more about your planned giving options, and how these gifts can make a real difference to the work of the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association, email the the OPPF today.

Upon notification of your intention, the Foundation will add you to our Legacy Society.

Sponsor/Mentor a Medical Student

Medical Student Mentorship "Consider Psychiatry"

In recent years, the number of medical students choosing to specialize in psychiatry has declined. OPPF has initiated efforts to encourage medical students to consider a residency in psychiatry. OPPF's goal is to provide quality enriched activities for medical students, allowing them to gain greater exposure to psychiatry and offering them an opportunity to meet and network with practicing psychiatrists

You can help achieve this goal by paying the meeting registration fee for a medical student to attend OPPA’s Annual Psychiatric Update. Your support can be accomplished in one of two ways: 1) If you have a particular student you wish to sponsor, simply complete the registration form, making sure to include the student information, and fax to (614) 481-7559; or 2) If you do not have a particular student in mind, we will pair you up with a medical student who has indicated an interest in attending if there is a sponsorship available - you may register online or fax the registration form to our office.

This year's medical student sponsorship program covers only basic costs for attendance and program materials. If you would
like to turn your support of a medical student into a tax-deductible contribution click HERE to complete a contribution form.

Silent Auction

We are excited to announce that the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation (OPPF) will be holding a silent auction fundraiser during the OPPA Annual Psychiatric Update on March 1, 2025, in conjunction with the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association’s (OPPA) 75th Anniversary Gala and the 2025 OPPA Annual Psychiatric Educational Update. This milestone event will honor the rich history and remarkable evolution of the psychiatric profession, bringing together a vibrant community of clinicians, researchers, and learners from across the state.

The funds raised will support OPPF’s goals which are to raise awareness, fight stigma, and educate professionals and the public at large about the causes and evidence-based treatments of psychiatric disorders, including substance use disorders. The Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation (OPPF) is a non-profit charitable arm of the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association (OPPA). The OPPA is a statewide professional organization whose more than one thousand psychiatric physician members specialize in the treatment and prevention of mental illnesses, including substance use disorders.

We invite you to donate to the silent auction. Businesses that donate items, services, and/or monetary gifts will receive promotional exposure before, during, and after the event. This can help increase visibility and foster positive community relations for your business. Contributions will also demonstrate your commitment to enhancing mental health care and supporting the psychiatric community in Ohio.

For more information on how to contribute or attend the event, please contact oppf@oppa.org. Together, we can advance the field of psychiatry and improve mental health care for all Ohioans.

To date, the following items have generously been donated to the silent auction! Keep checking back for additional items!

The Henry A. Nasrallah, MD and Amelia Nasrallah, MA Endowment Fund

In late 2021, OPPA member Henry A. Nasrallah, MD, and his wife, Amelia Nasrallah, MA, made a generous endowment of $100,000 to the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation in support of research and advances in psychiatric neuroscience.

Dr. Nasrallah, currently a Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, has supported OPPA for more than 37 years as a member and Distinguished Life Fellow, as well as an active attendee and presenter at OPPA’s Annual Psychiatric Updates since 1985.

Dr. Nasrallah said, “There is a special place in my heart for the OPPF, and I had a strong desire to support it with an endowment, especially for the Annual Research Awards, because I played a significant role in establishing them.” Dr. Nasrallah served as president of the Ohio Psychiatric Association Education and Research Foundation (OPA-ERF) in the 1990s. Then, following a period of dormancy, Dr. Nasrallah stepped up to serve as president once again to revitalize the foundation in 2008, when it became known as the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Foundation (OPPF).

In his role as president of OPPF, Dr. Nasrallah identified colleagues to serve on the re-established board. His leadership and passion were evident in everything he did to make the foundation successful, including helping to design a new logo that is quite unique to highlight the purposes of the OPPF. Dr. Nasrallah invested many hours to establish, describe and define the criteria for the three categories of research to recognize the extensive work invested by general OPPA members, residentfellow members, and medical students in published articles. Dr. Nasrallah created a committee of academicians to select the winner and runner-up in each category for recognition during the OPPA Annual Psychiatric Update. In its first year (2008), Dr. Nasrallah generously donated $20,000 to help cover the honorarium of a national expert to speak on a topic of clinical advances in psychiatry at the OPPA Annual Psychiatric Update. Dr. Nasrallah also launched the “$60 for 60” campaign to raise funds for the OPPF on the 60th anniversary of the OPPA.

“The OPPA and OPPF have been an important part of my professional life since I moved to Ohio in 1985, initially at Ohio State and then at the University of Cincinnati”, said Dr. Nasrallah. “And as a psychiatric researcher and educator, there was no better way to give back than to provide support for the research and education purpose of the OPPF,” he added. “An endowment to support the annual OPPF Research Awards, as well as a lecture on advances in psychiatry at the Annual Meeting, is the perfect vehicle to express my wish to enhance research and education for all OPPA members, especially for residents and medical students who represent the bright future of our OPPA.”

Amelia Nasrallah, MA, Dr. Nasrallah’s wife, is a research psychologist who previously served for a decade as a faculty member and Director of Clinical Research Management in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati. She is currently Senior Managing Editor of two scientific journals: Schizophrenia Research and Biomarkers in Neuropsychiatry. “Brain research in psychiatry is very important to both of us” said Dr. Nasrallah.
