Covenant Care is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate services to patients and their loved ones during times of life-limiting illnesses.

Covenant Care exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care, education and the promotion of a supportive community sensitive to the needs of the persons facing the end of life, patients and their loved ones may be able to obtain physical, mental, and spiritual preparation for the end of life, bereavement and renewal.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Vice President/ Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the leadership and management of hospice care provided to patient/family units to ensure strategic growth and mission fulfillment. S/he will collaborate regularly and closely with the President/CEO in the overall management, policies, procedures and controls necessary to assure effective and efficient Covenant Care operations.  

The COO serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Covenant Care.  S/he will provides effective and inspiring leadership, mentorship and delegation to strengthen performance, share best practices and drive accountability.  The COO will lead an effective team of high performing operational leaders and team members to the next level by further developing and implementing effective recruitment, training, disciplinary, retention and succession strategies. 

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the coordination, appropriateness, quality, cost-effectiveness and efficiency of hospice, home health, private duty and Memory care to patient/family units and the community at large.

Ensure services and activities comply with all federal, state, funding, regulatory, certification, Joint Commission and licensing requirements.

Set and oversee operational and/or performance goals which are aggressive, achievable and tied to strategic goals. Monitor performance reporting and productivity reporting systems to insure efficiency of operations.

Actively participate with the CEO, CFO, and CMO/CCO in the budgeting processes for the organization.  Manage strategy implementation, budgets, timelines and resource allocation.

Establish and oversee operational processes and process improvement. Use financial data, forecasting and analysis to monitor costs, assess cost competitiveness and recommend cost management strategies. 

Actively participates in and contributes to Board Meetings, Executive Committee and Board committee meetings.

Represent the organization with external constituency groups, including community, governmental, state, national, and private organizations.  Promote a positive image of the Hospice concept and actively supports branch office and organizational fund raising and community events.

Qualifications:
Five years of professional experience in a senior leadership position within the hospice field is highly preferred, with additional experience in home health or other related health service areas preferred.  

Knowledge in both the proprietary and not for profit sectors of healthcare, and demonstrated ability to be an appropriate and professional representative of the organization.

S/he must possess a wide scope of understanding in general health care administration, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other areas of healthcare provision.

High energy and passion for Covenant Care’s mission is essential.

A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
