ODH Shares Second Quarter Immediate Jeopardy

The Ohio Department of Health has shared data on the most recent Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) citations from the second quarter of 2018. A summary of the data which includes key areas and contributing factors has been included.

There were 21 IJ deficiencies, with nine citations related to F-tag 689: Free of Accidents, Hazards/Supervision/Devices. Citations in this area are consistent with the immediate jeopardy citations since the new Long Term Care Survey process began which includes 24 total citations. The nine citations for the second quarter includes citations related to six elopement citations, two for smoking, and one related to choking. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Medicare Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organizations (QIN-QIOs) have provided a tool called the All-Cause Harm Prevention in Nursing Homes. The tool includes information to assist organizations in preventing adverse events.

Immediate jeopardy refers to those situations in which a provider’s noncompliance with
one or more requirements of participation has caused, or is likely to cause, serious injury, harm, impairment or death to a resident. The scope and severity levels are also included within the summary.
