Here are the latest need-to-know updates for Monday, August 31 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amid election and upcoming state budget, ‘Advocacy Bootcamp’ begins this week to hone member advocacy skills
COVID-19 has presented a unique opportunity for aging services providers to hone their advocacy skills. The pace of change in laws and rules is rapid, and public officials have rarely been so interested in what is happening in nursing homes and how home and community based providers are meeting the needs of older Ohioans. This enhanced attention comes amid a major election and an upcoming state budget.
LeadingAge Ohio will be hosting an Advocacy Bootcamp, which includes Continuing Education hours, to help member staff brush up on advocacy skills, with a focus on nuts and bolts, grassroots action, and political giving. Onsite meet-and-greets with lawmakers have given way to more intimate Zoom briefings, and candidates are working to understand how the topics covered in the headlines are playing out in their district.
Each session of this series will include assignments, building upon each presentation to help participants build relationships with local leaders and develop a plan for grassroots action.

Adult Day order released
Late today, the Governor announced that Ohio Health Director Lance Himes had signed the long-awaited health order outlining reopening expectations for adult day providers and senior centers, which can happen no sooner than September 21. LeadingAge Ohio is still reviewing this emerging guidance, and will include more detail in its Wednesday COVID report.
Palmetto GBA Hospice Coalition request for questions
The Hospice Coalition will be meeting with Palmetto representatives in October. Please submit questions to be raised with Palmetto staff by Thursday, close of business, September 3. Questions may be sent to National Hospice Cooperative President, Jeff Lycan, at jlycan@nhcooperative.org.
Questions can be submitted at any time and will be added to the list for the next quarterly meeting.
LeadingAge Ohio 2021 membership renewal to launch next week
Membership in LeadingAge Ohio is more important than ever as we continue to find innovative solutions to support members across the continuum and connect members with valuable resources. As LeadingAge Ohio members set priorities for 2021 and beyond, don’t forget to include membership dues with LeadingAge Ohio. The 2021 membership renewal drive will launch next week.
The primary contact for all LeadingAge Ohio provider members will receive an email next week requesting updates of the Member Profile Form. This once-a-year request is the basis for annual dues billing and also is an opportunity to make sure LeadingAge Ohio has the latest staff contacts in its database. LeadingAge Ohio will use this information to ensure communications are received timely and can be shared throughout your organization.
