Obituary for Mary "Sue" Richards

Mother and Mother-in-Law of Stacie and Mark Whetstone, Owners of Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home

RICHARDS, Mary M. “Sue”, age 75 of Vandalia, formerly of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born January 28, 1948 in Franklin, Indiana, daughter of Christopher B. and Mary A. (Sendek) Fahy. 

Sue retired from American Senior Communities in July 2022. She loved her work, and the friends she made over the years. Sue was a very driven, hard-working woman who always lived life on her terms. She loved her family and friends, and treasured the opportunities to spend time at sporting events, family gatherings and traveling when she was able. 

Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Francis “Frank”,  Vincent “Mickey”, Eddie, Christopher “Bud”, Rita, Lenora and Patricia “Pat”, Sue is survived by her daughter, Stacie Whetstone (Mark) of Vandalia; 2 granddaughters, Ashley Miller of Troy, and Katie Ivory (Justin) of Cincinnati; 3 great-granddaughters, Avery, Aaliyah and Amelia “Millie”; brother and sister-in-law (Sue’s best friend), Donald R. & Linda Fahy, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 8 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Rd., Vandalia, with Fr. John Tonkin officiating. Inurnment will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 7575 Paragon Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459 in Sue’s memory.
