Obituary for Joe A. Moore
Funeral Director and Son of Owner, Jean A. Moore, and Brother of Funeral Director Jared A. Moore, all of McCoy-Moore Funeral Homes
Joe A. Moore, 57, of Bidwell, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Ohio State Ross Heart Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his family and closest friends. Born October 1, 1966, in Xenia Ohio, Joe was the son of Jean McCoy Moore, Vinton, Ohio and the late Herbert Harry Moore.
A 1985 graduate of North Gallia High School, Joe began his collegiate career playing football at West Virginia Wesleyan University. He finished his education at the University of Rio Grande, graduating in 1991. That same year, he graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and worked in the family business, McCoy-Moore Funeral Homes. Joe was also the owner of Evans-Moore Realty, Gallipolis, Ohio, and former owner of Evans-Moore Insurance. He married his childhood friend, Sarah Evans, and they soon successfully ran these businesses together as a team for over 30 years.
Joe was an active member of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce, Vinton-Bidwell-North Gallia-River Valley School High School Reunion Committee, Vinton Masonic Lodge #131, Gallipolis Shrine Club, Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107, Gallipolis H.O.G. Club, Gallia County Gun Club and Third Sunday Investment Club.
Joe was a loving, kind, and generous husband, father, son, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He loved life and always jumped at the opportunity to experience the world through traveling with his wife, Sarah and children, Owen and Leia. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his friends, son, and brother-in-law, Dylan Evans. Always the life of the party, Joe was the funny guy who loved pulling pranks.
Joe was also a huge supporter of athletics and loved supporting Sarah throughout her career as a basketball coach and TV Commentator, Owen in his football career, and Leia in her basketball career as well as their friends and cousins in any activity. Joe was everyone’s biggest supporter and never met a stranger.
Joe is survived by his mother, Jean Moore and wife, Sarah Evans Moore, Bidwell, Ohio; son, Owen Moore, Chicago, Illinois, and daughter, Leia and Luke Lyden, Sandusky, Ohio; brother, Jared and Beth Moore, Bidwell. Also surviving are nephews: Michael Moore, Marcus Moore and fiancée, Amanda Popp, Brody Moore and Henry Evans; nieces: Evans Smalley, Audrey Seeberg, Natalie (Adam) Champer, Avery Moore and Naomi Evans; sisters-in-law: Margaret Evans and David Smalley, Rio Grande, Ohio; Nancy (Scott) Seeberg, Urbana, Ohio; Missy (Steve) Pyles, Gallipolis, Ohio; brother-in-law, Dylan (Angela Leister) Evans, Columbus, Ohio; mother-in-law, Rose Mary Evans, Rio Grande, Ohio; and life-long friends, Kevin and Susan Eastman, Gallipolis, Ohio; Mark and Kay Hardway, Gallipolis, Ohio.
In addition to his father, Herb Moore, he was preceded in death by brother, Jay H. Moore; paternal grandparents, Porter and Katheryn Moore; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Elsie McCoy and father-in-law, Clyde M. Evans.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Vinton Baptist Church, 11818 SR 160, Vinton, Ohio with Pastor Bobby Hood officiating. Burial followed in Vinton Memorial Park. Family and friends visited the church Friday from 3:00-8:00 PM.
