Obituary for Betty Ferguson

Retired Funeral Director, Mother and Mother-in-Law of Jay and Paula Ferguson, Former Owners of Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc.

Betty B. Ferguson, age 95, passed away peacefully Monday, May 5, 2025 at Heritage Senior Living of Plain City. Born March 5, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. 1948 graduate of Plain City High School.

Betty was a faithful member of Plain City Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, Deacon, a member of Lena Robinson Friendship Circle, Presbyterian Women’s Association, taught Sunday School in her younger years and joyfully sang in the choir in her later years. She lived her life as a good and faithful servant. Retired Funeral Director and Elementary School Teacher.

Member of the OES Elizabeth Chapter #56. Active member of Plain City Historical where she delighted in the camaraderie.

Betty loved her family and she thoroughly enjoyed watching each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandson at their school and sporting events. She was very proud of their achievements.

Betty enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She cherished the memories of taking her family to all eight Ohio State Parks with cabins and lodges to watch them explore nature and enjoy family activities. Her travels included 11 European countries, five National Parks, Hawaii, San Francisco and mission trips to Louisiana and Ohio.

You would regularly see her walking around town with her dog, Bergy and find her tending her garden and enjoying nature on her porch. Many family members and friends enjoyed sharing conversation and laughter putting puzzles together, playing games or cards.

Preceded in death by parents: John and Alta (Miller) Burns; 3 brothers: Monica Burns, Henry Burns and Charles Burns;  5 sisters: Geraldine Carr, Helen Snider, May Schmidt, Belle Scheiderer, Lucille Burns. The love of her life, husband: Charles J. Ferguson (1993), whom she married April 13, 1954 in El Paso, Texas while he was enlisted in the Army.

Survived by her loving children: Rita (David) McCray, Johna (Rich) Stahl, Jay (Paula) Ferguson, favorite grandchildren: Josh McCray, D.J. (Claire) McCray, Betsy (Zach) Morgan, Maggie Stahl, Charles Nathan Ferguson, Sarah Ferguson, Rachel Ferguson, favorite great-grandson: Tyson McCray and cherished goddaughter: Fiona Weber

She dearly loved and enjoyed many special visits with her nieces; Sally, Sue and Sandy.

The family received friends Saturday, May 10, 2025 with Memorial Service following at 11:30am at Plain City Presbyterian Church with food and fellowship after the service.
