Kay Marie Hillis Mell

Kay Marie (Hillis) Mell, 75 of Zanesville, died 4:20 AM Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following an extended illness. She was born Sunday, May 14, 1939 in Shawnee, the daughter of Loren E "Doc" Hillis and Sarah L. (Richards) Hillis. She married William F. “Bill” Mell on Saturday, October 1, 1955 and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. 

Kay retired in 1998 as an accumulator at General Electric in New Concord following 24 years of service. Following her retirement from General Electric she worked at the family business retiring in 2008 as a receptionist for the Hillis Funeral Home. Kay was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary; she enjoyed bingo and was an avid card player. She was a volunteer for Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital and a huge fan of Rosecrans Sports and enjoyed following her children, grandchildren and friends.

Kay is survived by three daughters: Debbie (Jim "Smity" Smith) Davis and Dee Ann Mell both of Zanesville, and Denise Mell of Denver, CO three sons: David (Crystal) Mell of Zanesville, Douglas Mell of Columbus and Danny (Terri) Mell of Zanesville; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jim (Sue) Hillis and Dave Hillis both of Zanesville; two sisters: Ellen Hillis of Zanesville and Carol (Ed) Ferguson of Chelan, WA many nieces and nephews;

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband Bill Mell who died April 10, 1997 and one grandson: Shawn McFerren

Friends may call 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 8, 2014. at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave, Zanesville where a Christian Vigil will be held at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 10:30 AM Wednesday, at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church with a Dominican Father as Celebrant. Kay will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband: Bill in Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care in Kay's Memory.
