What do you love most about Emergency Medicine?
My favorite part of EM is that we take care of anyone, at any time, for anything. I love that it is a safe space no matter someone’s circumstances and resources. I love that I can have an impact on someone’s life in so many ways, whether it’s saving a life, consulting a specialist for them, or providing them a pair of socks. It is such a privilege to care for all patients no matter what, and it is the best job in the world!
What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the field of Emergency Medicine?
There are so many awesome specialties in medicine. Be sure to explore them as much as possible while in medical school. It’s a unique time where you get to try out a bunch of different potential careers in a short period of time, and if nothing else, you can learn from the experts you may be consulting later.
Do you have a favorite quote to share?
“It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has.” -Hippocrates
