Ohio ACEP Signs on to Support CPR Training in Schools
Legislation would make hands-only CPR training a requirement for high school graduation
Ohio ACEP was approached by the American Heart Association (AHA) to support House Bill 113, which would require students to complete training in hands-only CPR on a manikin. The legislation, which was introduced by Reps. Cheryl Grossman (R – Grove City) and Nathan Manning (R – North Ridgeville), would mandate 30 minutes of training sometime before graduating high school. 27 states currently have similar laws on the books.
An Ohio ACEP member, Dr. Warren Yamarick, who is also an American Heart Association Columbus Board Member, urged the AHA to reach out to Ohio ACEP for its support. After discussing the legislation with representatives of the AHA, Ohio ACEP leaders have agreed that the bill could improve outcomes and are happy to support the legislation.
