Repairing Traumatic Injuries to the Biological and Energetic Sense of Self
Ursula Hofer and Jessica Mark
ONLINE
The body creates three distinct mappings of self. These emerge from the brain’s, heart’s and enteric nervous system’s experience of the self/
This course is designed to strengthen each of these mappings to help the person find themselves again after trauma!
We will study each of these 3 mapping systems, focusing especially on peripersonal space (the region within arm and leg reach of the body) which is created from the newly discovered multimodal neuron network of the brain.
Emphasis will be placed on being present, listening and noticing if the body can self-correct.
We will work in Phase 4/5 and 6, as well as various Reflexes but especially the Ciny Time Reflex.
This course will conclude with the interweavings of the three perspectives - brain, heart and gut - into a unified whole.

Repairing Traumatic Injuries to the Biological and Energetic Sense of Self
Ursula Hofer and Rosa Rodriguez
ONLINE
This is an online course via Zoom beginning on June 4th, continuing on consecutive Saturdays til June 26th. The body creates 3 distinct mappings of self. These emerge from the brain, heart, and enteric nervous system's experience of the self/world. This course is designed to strengthen each of these mappings - the peripersonal space, the electromagnetic field of the heart, and the enteric nervous system - and thus support the person in finding themselves after trauma. We will study each of these 3 mappings as well as their interrelationships. The peripersonal space is the buffer zone within arm and leg length of the body. When it engages, it provides the safety in the body that allows all 3 fields to become a powerful integrated network.

Bodywork for Equines
Susan Smith
Open Ended Timeline,Online
The online class format for Equine Body Balance “Bodywork for Equines” class is adapted from the actual hands-on class in order to provide a rewarding student experience without the student needing to leave their own homes or barns. The student may also take the course at their leisure, without having to adhere to a specific time and place requirement. Included in the course are videos, article links, and detailed instructions on techniques shown in the videos. It is a good idea for students to have an equine anatomy book to refer to. What you will need for this class: Good equine anatomy book Safe horse to work with Ability to view videos preferably in the field as well as at home, i.e. – phone, laptop, iPad Like the hands-on class, Bodywork for Equines is for the owner who is interested in learning some tools to maintain their own horses’ health and horse professionals who are interested in sustainable ways to assist in the healing of horses. The class aims to foster a holistic view of the horse and people’s relationship to it through non-force intention. Equine Body Balance balances the horse’s systems and allows for better functionality. It allows people to be more proactive in their horse’s health care by learning how to observe a horse’s condition, and hands-on techniques to address injury, restriction and improve overall movement, health and soundness. Knowledge of what the horse is capable of doing influences how we train and what we can expect from the horse.

Stepping Out: Equine Limbs, Ligaments and Tendons
Susan Smith
Zoom
Mountain Time: This course focuses on the equine limbs and the structures that contribute to the healthy movement of limbs. How do you keep a horse moving well or within a comfortable range of function? The equine forelimb is tied to the body by muscles in the shoulder and ligaments – with no bony union. That’s just one interesting fact about the equine limbs and why we must take into account the entire limb, ligaments and tendons when assessing healing of the limb. This class and its techniques are not a substitute for veterinary care, but rather, a complement to it. In Equine Ortho-Bionomy, observation, range of motion and exploration of movement of the whole horse give us information on what the horse is able to do in terms of movement. These tools are helpful for assessing the horse biomechanically and help us to provide bodywork care that is most specific and beneficial. If the horse is resistant for any reason – illness, arthritis, lameness, neurologic issues, etc., then foreleg as well as spinal techniques may help. These can be done before the farrier or vet arrives, or just regularly to help with leg joint, tendon and ligament health. They may be used to warm up a horse who is going to perform, as well as for the beginning of your bodywork session. In this course we will cover the following: Observation of the horse’s gait, preferences, demeanor, facial expressions and other well-being indicators. Looking at the whole horse as well as the injury, condition, etc. that is affecting the horse’s demeanor and movement. Identifying soft tissue, ligaments and tendons (including organ ligaments) and how to work with them. Identifying signs that the horse is feeling better or what we need to do to achieve that. The course includes: lecture and materials, charts, homegrown technique videos, lively classroom discussion, homework and the opportunity for students to submit videos and/or photos of their work. Materials are available for an extended period on Dropbox. Class #1, March 2nd: Observation of the horse’s gait, preferences, demeanor, facial expressions and other well-being indicators. Tissue differences. Class #2, March 9th: Identify soft tissue, ligaments and tendons (including organ ligaments) and how to work with them. Class #3, March 16: Looking at the whole horse as well as the injury, condition, etc. that is affecting the horse’s demeanor and movement. Class #4, March 23: Case Studies – Students work with a condition and come back with ways to address it. Class #5, March 30: Integrating movement to further healing. Do contact the instructor if you have any questions or need help with logging onto Zoom. Early Bird rate applies on or before February 28th, 2021.

Equine: Reading the Horse
Susan Smith
Zoom
Mountain Time:We can all use help with reading the horse. In working with horses professionally, there is a need to take a read on the horse initially and to be able to understand how to proceed, where to place hands, whether to place hands on or not, where is the meeting place? That read must be continuous throughout your session, making room for shifting focus, mood and acceptance from the horse. “The horse knows. He knows if you know. He also knows if you don’t know.” — Ray Hunt This is so true, not just with horse training as Ray Hunt applies it, but with equine bodywork as well. When you learn something, the horse knows you know it. He or she will ask for it. If you don’t know something, he knows that too. There are several ways of approaching this. We have many things to consider and understand that we can easily misread a horse if we aren’t centered and in the moment, also taking in what the next moment might hold. I approach this topic from my background in both bodywork, liberty training and riding and camping for lots of miles with an equine partner. We can easily misread a horse if we aren’t centered and in the moment, also keeping an awareness of what the next moment might hold. Join me in this fascinating exploration! There are many who know horses extremely well, can get horses to “do” things, or have special powers of understanding developed out of their own years of experience. In bodywork, as with riding and other horse work, we need to be able to have the horse connect with us. It is not a matter of “making them do things.” It is not a matter of power over. It is power in connection. Topics covered: Learn how to listen to the horse Allow horse to have choice Respect without attaching human characteristics to the horse. Using your dimensions to stay in right relationship with the horse. Knowing how to ask Safety Herd dynamics – wild and domestic Include other horses Everybody’s different Working with the horse in different settings Recognize when the horse recognizes you. Reading yourself Remaining centered Working with bubbles

Repairing Traumatic Injuries to the Biological and Energetic Sense of Self
Ursula Hofer and Jessica Mark
ONLINE
The body creates three distinct mappings of self. These emerge from the brain’s, heart’s and enteric nervous system’s experience of the self/world.
