National Career
Development Month

NCDA promotes career development through its annual celebration of National Career Development Month. Every November, career development professionals are encouraged to celebrate with career related activities. In particular, NCDA sponsors an annual Poetry and Poster Contest.

This year, National Career Development week is November 14-18 and National Career Development Day is November 16, 2016.

Enter the 51st Annual Poetry Poster Contest.
This year's theme is "The Joy of Work: Positive Approaches to Work, Career & Life!"

What does this theme mean to you? Think about it as you read the following comments
from NCDA President David M. Reile:

  • Some people work for a living, while others live to work.  What does this mean?
  • It has been said, “If you enjoy your career (job), you will never work a day in your life.”  What does this mean?
  • Is it possible to have joy in your work or to enjoy your job?  What if play is your work?
  • Do those who play professional sports see their jobs as “work?”  Do magicians or acrobats or comedians see their jobs as “work?”
  • Is it possible for trash collectors or sewer workers to find joy in their jobs? Why or why not?
  • Have you ever thought about the fact that “Job" and “Joy" are only different by one letter?
  • Everybody from  janitors to presidents to kings and queens have days where their jobs aren’t any fun.  But they also have days where they love what they do.  How is it possible to find joy in working, even if you have a job that others might think is boring?

Congratulations to all the Winners of the 50th Annual Poetry and Poster Contest.
