Instructor Training
- Selected through an application process. Selection is based on education, experience, adult training abilities, and commitment.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications as indicated on NCDA website.
- Instructors must successfully complete an Instructor Training Workshop given by an NCDA SCDA Master Trainer to become an SCDA Instructor.
- To maintain your NCDA SCDA Instructor status you must the NCDA Instructor Registry.
The NCDA Instructor Registry offers:
- Advertisement of School Career Development Advisor Training and Certification classes on the NCDA Website.
- Complimentary receipt of updates to curriculum.
- Your name appears on the registry as an NCDA recognized instructor.
- You will receive notifications of any updates or changes to rules and notification of upcoming available trainings and conferences.
- For students to be eligible for the CSCDA credential, they must be trained by an NCDA Instructor and the School Career Development Training and Certification Program must total 48 hours.
NCDA School Career Development Advisor Master Trainer
- Master Trainers are current SCDA Instructors selected through an application process. Selection is based on a set of specific criteria.
- Training is scheduled on an “as needed” basis.
- NCDA will notify everyone on the NCDA Instructor Registry about future training.
- NCDA offers a Master Trainer Registry and a training calendar on the website to assist in recruitment of new NCDA School Career Development Advisor Instructors.
Qualifications to become an SCDA Instructor
All NCDA Registered School Career Development Advisor Instructors have fulfilled the following criteria
1. Completed FCD Training
2. K-12 Career Development Expertise
Has fulfilled ONE of the following categories under K-12 Career Development Expertise:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in school counseling or counseling with coursework in school career development or school counseling
- minimum of 3 years of K-12 school counseling or K-12 career development experience (teaching, training, materials development or practice)
- minimum of 3 years of experience connecting business with youth-related programs and students.
- presentations and/or published books/training materials related to K-12 career development
Master’s degree in a field such as Human Resource Development, Psychology or Education with
- minimum of 3 years of K-12 school counseling or K-12 career development experience (teaching, training, materials development or practice)
- recent continuing education related to K-12 career development
- minimum of 3 years of experience connecting business with youth-related programs and students.
- presentations and/or published books/training materials related to career development
Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Human Resource Development, Psychology or Education with
- minimum of 5 years of K-12 school counseling or K-12 career development experience (teaching, training, materials development or practice)
- recent continuing education related to K-12 career development
- minimum of 5 years of experience connecting business with youth-related programs and students.
- presentations and/or published books/training materials related to career development
OR
- without the above stated education, the SCDA Instructor Candidate has extensive K-12 school career development background, training knowledge, expertise, and experience, including connecting business with youth-related programs and students.
3. Training Expertise
Must fulfill ONE of the following THREE categories AND have a minimum of 3 years of experience teaching/training adults:
- Has taught career-related counselor education courses at the college or university level OR
- Has taught career development courses at the college or university level OR
- Has conducted broad, in-depth, career development staff training within a corporate, school, or government setting
Register for SCDA Instructor Training
Anyone who is interested in becoming an instructor for the School Career Development Advisor Training and Certification program must meet the required Qualifications.
Instructor Training Workshops
Please contact directly the trainers listed for each Instructor Training Workshop below. They will provide you with application forms and additional information (such as locations and starting times) about each workshop.
The cost to participate in an SCDA Instructor Training Workshop is $2000. The cost DOES NOT includes an NCDA SCDA Instructor Manual which is $325 plus S&H.
Typically, the cut-off date for accepting applications is 4-6 weeks prior to the training.
