OHIGRO Celebrates 50 Years of Serving Central Ohio

On Sept. 4, 1965, OHIGRO, Inc. was incorporated by James H. Ward and his business partners. The following spring, OHIGRO was open for its first planting season with three full-time employees and a single fertilizer building. Fifty years later, the company continues to serve central Ohio’s agricultural community, focusing on fertilizer, seeds, and chemical sales and services.

In its first years, OHIGRO grew quickly, constructing an office in 1966 and purchasing a “floater-spreader” in 1969. In 1970, a seed house and new fertilizer shed were built and liquid fertilizer tanks were purchased. The company purchased a second plant in Richwood in 1973 to better serve customer needs.

OHIGRO expanded again in 1989, purchasing the Delaware Farmer’s Exchange and began the subsidiary company, OHIGRO South, Inc. The location offered traditional farm customer services, but also expanded to meet the needs of a growing urban population and landscape community through OHIOGRO’s various lawn seeds, pond chemicals and bagged fertilizers. The two company identities consolidated in 1995, bringing together the three locations and continuing the same standards of service that OHIGRO had become known for.

For 50 years, OHIGRO has offered retail and wholesale agricultural fertilizer, chemicals and seeds. Services such as custom application, grid sampling and seed cleaning has given OHIGRO a leading edge in the community. Though the company continues to adapt with changes in agriculture, its primary goal remains the same - serve the customer.
