OABA Supports NGFA's Statement to STB

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association, with more than 30 state and national agricultural organizations, signed the National Grain & Feed Association's statement to the Surface Transportation Board. The statement was submitted in response to the STB’s Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) on a possible new rate review methodology that would apply to a subset of rail rate disputes, generally described in the ANPR as “very small disputes.”

The statement urges the STB to refocus this proceeding on developing a streamlined, accessible and workable method for grain and other agricultural shippers to challenge unreasonable rates – the original intent of this proceeding – rather than trying to expand it to apply to all commodities, including coal, chemicals, ores and other non-agricultural products.  The statement also contains recommendations for improving the ANPR and urges that the STB proceed to develop and issue a proposed rule.
