ODA sponsors certified livestock manager training session in February

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a certified livestock manager training session for farmers or custom applicators who need to get their license or just want to learn more about best manure management practices.

The two-day session will be held Feb. 12-13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ODA's Bromfield Building, 8995 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg. Registration deadline is Feb. 5. Cost is $30 per day and includes lunch.

The sessions will provide discussions on nutrient management, insect and rodent control, record keeping, equipment maintenance, spill response, safety issues and a review of the rules and regulations concerning manure handling. The first day will focus on general topics related to ODA rules and other important components of nutrient management and record keeping. The second day will focus on nutrient standards, equipment maintenance, limits on potassium, precision ag technologies, insect and rodent control and safety issues related to handling of manure.

The training enables participants to complete all the training needed for certification. Certified livestock managers need 10 hours of continuing education every three years to maintain their certification.
