OABA Signs Letter in Support of National Grain and Feed Association Proposal

Proposal in favor of new railroad rate reasonableness rules applicable to agricultural commodities

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association, along with many other state trade associations, has signed a Joint Reply Comments letter in support of a proposal submitted by National Grain and Feed Association to the Surface Transportation Board, calling for new railroad rate reasonableness rules applicable to agricultural commodities.

Supporters of this proposal believe that the current rail rate reasonableness rules are not applicable to the transportation of agricultural commodities for various reasons, including being too costly, too unwieldy and providing no opportunity for relief to the majority of captive rail shippers of agricultural commodities. Instead, supporters are asking the Surface Transportation Board to adopt a new set of rules for agricultural rail rates that would be simple to apply, allow cases to be processed in a timely manner at a lower cost and provide relief to captive agricultural shippers allthewhile protecting revenues of defendant railroads.
